For our two years in Italy, I had two "wish list" adventures on my list. Paris Disney, check. A Christmas market, check. A few weekends ago, we drove four hours to Innsbruck, Austria to visit the Christkindlmarkt. Innsbruck is a beautiful town filled with unique architecture and a charming ambience...a place where I would love to spend more time!
The Christmas market was crowded with people holding small cups of warm gluhwein - a spiced, mulled wine typical of the winter season. After savoring several small mugs of his own, Kevin now wants to try to mull his own wine! Just add it to our "to do" list! In addition to gluhwein, we also couldn't pass up the opportunities to indulge in other traditional treats...apple strudel, schneebolls, schnitzel, and spatzle. Mmm...

Kevin enjoyed gluhwein...I had "kinderpunsch". Not the same.
The decorations felt very European...Christmas lights that added to the charm of the town, not overpowered it and Christmas trees that felt majestic and simple at the same time. The showstopper was the extravagant Swarovski Christmas tree at the entrance to the main market. Since Swarovski crystal is of Austrian origin, it was a beautiful display of Austrian pride.

Zoey enjoyed the old fashioned carousel and choosing sparkly ornaments for our Christmas tree. Kevin and I enjoyed eating...oh yeah, and the family memories we're making in places all over Europe. And Kaia? She likes almost everything!!! It was a festive weekend filled with Christmas spirit, beautiful sights, and quality family time. Loved it!

Ten years ago, Kevin and I stayed at the Cafe Munding Bed and Breakfast during our backpacking trip. We found it again and chatted with the owner, Almut, while we were at the Market. Full circle?

Braids! Since Frozen, Zoey loves braids!
